June Luncheon 2024

The Concord Country Club Room full of joyful chatter

Our annual June Luncheon brings a ceremonial close to the Garden Club year. President Lauren Huyett offered news to the 86 members in attendance about our successful Plant sale, Board member appointments, and asked Treasurer Rod Riedel to explain our new membership fee and budget considerations. Rod reported that while our financial situation is sound, we are one poor plant sale year away from depleting our resources. Members are encouraged to economize in their committees and to share any ideas we may have to raise additional funds.

After Rod’s remarks, Lauren Huyett turned to the Judith Rose Shea Award, named for past member whose boundless energy and dedication to our work in service to the Concord community inspired her contemporaries to create this award in her honor. The GCC has chosen to highlight deserving members whose generosity of time recalls Judith’s cheerful spirit. Past recipients are Sandra Lynn, Wilhelmina van Der Wansem, Amal Moamar, and Sandra Conrad. This year, the Board chose to recognize Joan Campbell with the golden trowel (created by Kate Wharton) for Joan’s reliable availability for any task or subcommittee, from small to large, from necessary to whimsical, that ever arrives. Joan was not able to attend the June Luncheon, but was instead presented with the award at the final Board meeting of the year in early June. Thank you, Joan!
