21 Ways of Looking at a Plant Sale

Looking Lush in the Rain; photo by Rod Riedel

I hate it when starting ten days out the weather forecast predicts rain for your Garden Club’s plant sale and you keep crossing your fingers all week that they are wrong because they HAVE BEEN WRONG a lot this year (or at least a little off, and enough to make you think they could be a LOT off) and the Saturday morning you were waiting for comes along and

DAMMIT, they were right.

Don’t you?

But freezing fingers and very wet feet are no obstacle to the joy of hanging out together.

I received so many photos of the Tool Shed! I decided to go with this one.

After purchase conversation: Dad: You’re going to share that with your brother, right?  Son: NOOOOOOOOOOOO!

CODA: The Children’s Corner

In recent years, the Garden Club has realized the potential for capitalizing on our Saturday-before-Mother’s-Day date by making available “impulse gifts” for our customers. Pre-made bouquets had sold out quickly two years in a row. And this year the Club added something new: a tent dubbed The Children’s Corner festooned with tiny watering cans, featuring wee glass vases, note cards and markers, and a selection of fresh flowers for little ones to make their own mini-arrangements for Mother’s Day. It was a soggy debut, but it earned so much admiration from club members and also the families who braved the morning deluge that it is likely to return next year!
