Spring Happenings

Our Spring Workshop was a success!

This is not exactly a newsletter, but there’s so much going on and things to catch up on, I thought it a good idea to send a mid-point update on everything you need to know! Several things require the attention of all members, lots of calendar entries to add, and you don’t want to miss the spectacular flowers near the end, so please read through! Thank you to Hilary Robinson, Wendy McNally, Pam Nelson, and Jeanne Hamilton for providing photos for this post.

Our annual Spring Workshop got a last minute makeover this year, when Wendy McNally made arrangements to move the workshop into a more weatherproof setting and released Andrea Meyer from any barn cleaning and parking concerns. The Nashoba Brooks School allowed the club to take advantage of their shiny new Sureau Family Discovery Barn, recently completed and just waiting for us! Workshop participants were so delighted with the accessible facility no one could help but remark over and over how blessed we all felt to have found this out. It was a widely shared hope that we comported ourselves well enough to be invited back next year. Fingers crossed.

The morning was beautifully managed, and the daffodil components were fresh off the plane from the Netherlands! Talk about fresh! Community Outreach Chair Wendy McNally, Spring Workshop Co-Chairs Charity Tremblay and Beth Kundert, along with the Communications Committee chaired by Sally Savelle, the Materials Committee, and Hospitality volunteers all worked together moving the many parts into one glorious morning of fellowship and cheer spreading. Thank you notes have already started coming back to us. This really is one of the feel-good highlights of our year, and everyone present that day will agree: this was an especially cheerful version.

Please Help Our Plant Sale

The Sign up for the Plant Sale is now available. Please fill out your preferences to contribute. There are lots of opportunities and remember, it is expected of all members to contribute in some way. We are not the police, I promise you, but you really do owe it to the club to pitch in if only to bake cookies or recruit a neighbor’s over-abundant garden for a club dig and divide session.

Welcome New Member, Helena Long

I have lived in Concord for over twenty years. I have a number of friends who are magnificent gardeners and have grown to appreciate the combination of artistry,  knowledge and hard work required to create magical spaces. Now that I am retired, I have time to experiment and will expand my cut flower and vegetable garden this season at the very least. But I do have much bigger aspirations! I especially look forward to serving the Community and giving back. Thank you for the wonderful programming and I look forward to meeting other members of the Concord Garden Club.

A Knockout Arrangement for the Umbrella

See? Aren’t you glad you scrolled all the way down now?

This beautiful flower installation by our own Jeanne Hamilton welcomed visitors to the Emerson Umbrella’s Open Studios earlier this month. One photo does not do it justice, but just imagine this in real life. Jeanne says she was inspired by Dutch still life paintings, and we can clearly see that opulence in her choices. pink and green Ranunculus, orange Parrot Tulips, pink French Tulips, white Lilacs, soft pink Sweet Peas, Granny Smith Apples, Quince Branches, Rhododendron Branches, Italian Ruscus.
