Community Cheer: Cans for Caring and Council on Aging
How many club wreaths have you seen around town this year?
Happy Solstice! Even though winter is yet to arrive in earnest, the promise of lengthening days and the advent of spring gardening catalogs (or their email counterparts) is always worth observing, along with my annual reminder that I need to order a custom spark screen if I ever want to use my big fireplace!
As Christmas looms, I thought a quick post about two of our community activities might brighten your day, sun-filled or not.
Cans for Caring
Cans for Caring is always popular and fills up with volunteers quickly every year. On the sixth of this month, Ellen Whitney welcomed an especially enthusiastic crew to her house to assemble festive trees for Meals on Wheels recipients.
Bean Nardi, Jenny Borden, Jane Rupley, Tracy Lyne, Barbara Freeland, Pam Nelson, Victoria Mulligan and Madelene Wilson
Mary Pope, Jane Coutre, Chandler Wooland, Lori Bratzler

Ellen wrote the day after:
What a fun time we had this am. Everyone was there (except Heather Swartwood who couldn’t make it). Special thanks to Chandler and Jane Coutre who made the delivery to the new meals on wheels headquarters at first parish Lincoln. Jane reported back that they were told how thankful all their recipients are to “score a tree” from us. They look forward to receiving every year!
I hope the photos show how delightful it was to be back together again, working with our hands and chatting through the morning.
It’s a happy tradition!
Council on Aging Workshop
Ellen Matheson, Rod Riedel, and Paula Casey spent an early afternoon with workshop participants at the Council on Aging, recreating the charming mug arrangements that Ellen showed off at the Holiday Luncheon. COA activities coordinator Tina Close sent along these photos capturing the session; perhaps you recognize some of these happy faces!
That’s all for now. I wish you and your families a festive, safe, and restorative holiday and a very happy new year.
